Vietnam War Book Reviews
Greetings today and thank you for reading. I’m Richard and I’m writing to you today to inform you about a new website I am building, VietnamWarBooks.net. I’m a massive fan of the Vietnam War and all of the history, the films and books. I was looking around to see if I could find a decent website on Vietnam war books, because I found really they are the best way of getting under the skin of the participants and finding out what truly happened out there. I couldn’t really find anything so I’ve decided to build a simple easy to use website which has book reviews of the very best works to emerge from the Vietnam War.
Okay, let me tell you about how I’ve got all of the information organised on my website. If people are like me, I’m guessing they are interested in various different genres of Vietnam war books. It may be that some people are looking for stories on the special forces, perhaps on snipers, on the grunts, or perhaps history books or reportage style books. I’ve organised my information in a way that you can identify what kind of book you’re looking for and navigate straight to it. At VietnamWarBooks.net I’ve got the best reviews of the best books to come out of Vietnam.
So, as I was saying, I’ve organised my site into specific genres so people can access what they’re after quickly and get onto the reviews which most interest them. My ‘Snipers’ section discuss the outstanding Dear Mom: A Sniper’s Vietnam by Joseph T Ward. Written in the form of letter home to his mother, Ward describes the breathless and incredible story of how it was to be a deadly marine sniper in the jungles of Vietnam. I’ve got another section on my site devoted to ‘Airborne’ – here you’ll find a review of one of my favourite Vietnam war books, Chickenhawk by helicopter pilot Robert Mason.
Alongside a section on snipers I’ve also got sections entitled grunts, which look at GI’s stories, and also one on special forces. This latter reviews some of the most outstanding books to come out of the commandos and elite special units. One of the best of these is Blackjack 34 written by James Donahue. It describes a single day where Donahue’s behind the enemy lines patrol is discovered by the enemy and the mission goes horribly wrong. I’ve also got sections dealing with incredible true stories and another one which I’ve called reportage. In this you will find reviews of some of the best books written by journalists to come out of the Vietnam War including one of the best, Dispatches, written by Michael Herr.
Finally I’ve got a little potted history of the ‘Nam from 1954-1975 so that anyone coming to the Vietnam War new can get a sense of what actually happened there. So, for those people out there looking for some incredible reads, stories of bravery, action and unbelievable human spirit, VietnamWarBooks.net is the place to visit. In my About section I discuss a little bit about myself and why I’ve set up the site, my educational background and links to the war. Come along and browse the reviews and get access to the best books ever written on the Vietnam War.
